Responsibilities

The Board of County Commissioners is a three-person elected board that has the overall responsibility for county government functions such as:

  • Managing budgets
  • Performing executive functions
  • Setting policies


Members

The Board of County Commissioners is the only elected body, which represents citizens of Atchison County whether their residence is located inside or outside city limits.

Commissioners serve four-year terms, with two of the three Commissioners being elected in the same year; the other Commissioner is elected two years later. Commissioner terms begin the second Monday in January after the election.
